Anti global warming. Human beings are shifting directions towards low-carbon society. But the global warming is accelerating that 4℃ of increase in temperature is predicted by the end of this century, and some of the ecosystems are already affected. Growing numbers of climate disorders such as hurricanes, abrupt downpours, floods, droughts, and wildfires are inseparable from global warming. Japan is announcing a 80% reduction of CO2 from 1990 by 2050 to continue sustainable growth. To achieve this task, a scheme beyond corporates and industry is needed.

Sadly, 1/3 of the CO2 emmission today is caused by the construction industry. IPCC (Intergovenmental Panel on Climate Change) lists the construction industry as sectors in need to reduce CO2 the most. In other words, we believe we can stop the warming by adapting environmental technology. For this ideal, Azusa Sekkei utilizes environmental technology from the primary stage of design and promotes “environmentally harmonized architecture” with quality and beauty putting ideas, structure and device together.

Azusa Sekkei Co., Ltd. has been building achievements of environmental technology for 20 years, promoting “environmentally harmonized architecture”. In 2008, the Global Environment Dpt. was organised to share the accumulating knowledge and technology of environmental issues throughout the company. We are evaluating our technology synthetically by “visualizing” the effects using simulation technology and numbers, and by CASBEE (Comprehensive Assessment System for Built Environment Efficiency). We do what we have to do as architects to make the low-carbon society. That is Azusa Sekkei’s determination and responsibility for the century of environment.
