We developed a relocation and new construction plan to strengthen functions as a core of the Reginal Medical Center Area project in the Saga community-based health care revitalization plan, and as a regional emergency and critical care/regional disaster medical service center. We have also improved pediatric care and perinatal care systems, responding flexibly to diversifying needs. This facility adopts an exterior design that exudes a sense of presence and symbolizes community-based health care by standing on higher ground. We sought to create architectural space in harmony with the history and nature of Karatsu by using materials with a feel of texture such as natural wood and tiles. Facing the 2-story open Hospital Galleria, we built the Patient Integrated Support Center, which integrates outpatient service, hospitalization, and consultation service, and converged the outpatient and examination departments on one floor. In doing so, we developed a clear and short traffic line plan. Taking into consideration the need to minimize the distance between patients and staff members in the inpatients’ ward, we created a staff station facing patient rooms, and provided a bright, open, and peaceful environment by adopting glass to the doors of the conference and patient rooms.
